Monica began studying the piano at 3 years of age; learning Classical and Church music. She studied Cello privately at the age of 9. By age 12, she began developing her orchestral musicianship at the prestigious San Jose Youth Orchestra. It was here that she achieved the honor of Senior Orchestra’s Principal Cellist at age 18. She learned under the instruction of Peter Gelfand, principal cellist of the San Jose Symphony.

Monica was awarded a four-year scholarship to the University of California at Irvine. She gained personal training from Dr. Margaret Parkins; who presented her with the opportunity to play for Yo-Yo Ma during Monica’s first year.

Monica grew in her musical studies as well as developing an interest in media arts. During her Senior Recital, she included a collection of Music and Art Media. After completing her Bachelors of Music in cello performance, Monica moved back to San Jose to study with Sandy Walsh-Wilson at San Francisco State University. Currently, Monica is finishing her Masters of Music in Cello performance at San Francisco State University.
